The Rockpile is the elevated Moraine Lake view, where the ten peaks line up above luminous water and the shoreline trees provide scale. Dawn is beautiful, but access—not exposure—is now the main planning problem.
Simplified forecast from the open model run. The full forecast — a second model, your exact viewpoint, the hourly cloud timeline — is in the app.
Global model, about 13 km: less certain than in Europe.
Rain is likely over the cloud canvas and will block most direct light.

Terrain is drawn for illustration only — it is not used to calculate underlight or obstruction.
Precipitation is likely nearby (0.8 mm at one or more sample points) — most direct light will be blocked, though a showery sky can still open up.
Very thick mid/high cover (100%) — colour likely only at cloud edges.
Low cloud deck overhead (79%) hides the coloured undersides.
Most clouds above you sit in shadow — their undersides are unlikely to catch colour.
Cloud is distributed across low, middle and high levels, creating strong vertical depth.
Cloud cover changes between nearby and distant parts of the scene, adding texture and depth.
Broken low cloud (63%) — expect the light to come and go.
A thick mid-level deck (86%) dims the low sun — light will be weak and flat.
The low sun comes down through a high cloud sheet toward the sun (100% at 104–228 km) — expect pale, weak golden light.
Sun likely hidden. You're above the low cloud (1920 m), but a solid mid-level deck (100%) sits over it — the sun stays screened from above.
Forecast refreshed a few hours before sunrise.

Low cloud deck overhead (68%) hides the coloured undersides.
Most clouds above you sit in shadow — their undersides are unlikely to catch colour.
Cloud cover is nearly solid and uniform across the near scene — a flat lid rather than separated layers.
Cloud occupies two height bands, giving the sky useful layered structure.
Thick cloud between you and the low sun (83%) — no real golden hour expected.

Terrain is drawn for illustration only — it is not used to calculate underlight or obstruction.
Almost no clouds above you — expect a clean but pale horizon glow rather than a red sky.
Very little cloud is available to give the weather visible structure.
Cloud cover changes between nearby and distant parts of the scene, adding texture and depth.
Cloud at the light ray's height along the far path (64%) will block most direct light.
Sun clearly visible. You're above the low cloud (1920 m) — the sun clears the deck below you.

June to early October while Moraine Lake Road and shuttle services operate. Late June has snow on the peaks; September adds autumn colour and colder mornings.
20–35 mm for lake and peaks; 50–100 mm for peak reflections and canoes.
Climb beyond the first opening and use trees to frame the lake without hiding its shoreline. A polariser can deepen the water, but check that it does not kill the reflection.
Choose a shuttle that gets you there 45–60 minutes before sunrise; private vehicles generally cannot drive to the lake.
Moraine Lake Road is seasonal and personal-vehicle access is restricted. Reserve Parks Canada or an approved shuttle well ahead and verify the current first departure.
Parking: Park at the shuttle departure location specified by the operator; there is no general visitor parking at Moraine Lake.
Approach: Ten to fifteen minutes up the signed Rockpile trail from the shuttle stop.
