Cookie Policy — SunsetVue
Last updated: 2026.09.03
This policy explains how SunsetVue uses cookies and browser storage. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
1. What these technologies are
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser and sent with later requests to the same service. Local storage and session storage also keep data in your browser, but are not automatically sent with every request. In this policy, "browser storage" means all three.
Some entries below are created directly by SunsetVue. Others are controlled by Clerk, Stripe, Google, or Amplitude and may vary by browser, account state, and provider changes.
2. Your choices
SunsetVue provides a self-hosted consent panel on your first visit and whenever the consent wording materially changes. You can accept all technologies, reject optional technologies, or manage Preferences and Analytics separately. You can reopen the panel at any time through "Cookie settings" in the site footer.
SunsetVue does not read or write its optional preference keys and does not load Google Analytics or Amplitude unless you allow the corresponding category. If the consent panel cannot start or you do not make a choice, optional storage and analytics stay off. Withdrawing preference consent removes SunsetVue's optional preference keys; withdrawing analytics consent stops Amplitude collection and removes the accessible Google Analytics and Amplitude cookies listed below.
Strictly necessary technologies may still be used to provide a feature you request, such as signing in, recording your consent choice, or opening Stripe's hosted checkout or billing portal.
The consent-management code is bundled with SunsetVue. Opening the panel does not contact the software project's maintainer or send a consent log to a separate consent-management service.
3. Technologies we use
3.1 Strictly necessary
| Cookie / technology | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
sunsetvue_consent | SunsetVue | Records your category choices and the policy revision so they can be applied on later visits | 182 days, unless deleted earlier |
__session, __client_uat | Clerk | Authenticates your account and maintains sign-in state | Controlled by Clerk; session and persistent variants may be used |
__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid, and other Stripe security cookies on Stripe-hosted pages | Stripe | Fraud prevention, checkout, and billing-portal security | Controlled by Stripe; session and persistent variants may be used |
SunsetVue does not create an sv_consent cookie or a separate first-party CSRF cookie.
3.2 Preferences
These keys are used only after preference storage is allowed. If permission is absent, the same choices may apply in memory for the current page but are not persisted.
| Browser-storage key | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
sunsetvue:units | SunsetVue local storage | Remembers whether heights and distances are shown in metric or imperial units | Until consent is withdrawn or browser storage is cleared |
sv_install_dismissed | SunsetVue local storage | Remembers that the install prompt was dismissed for the current local calendar day | The stored date remains until overwritten, consent is withdrawn, or storage is cleared; it affects the prompt for one day |
sunsetvue:last-forecast-mood | SunsetVue session storage | Keeps the decorative forecast colour treatment stable during the current browser tab session | Browser-tab session |
SunsetVue does not currently create sv_units, sv_theme, or sv_last_location.
3.3 Analytics
Google Analytics and Amplitude load only after analytics consent is available. Amplitude Analytics measures product use, while Amplitude Session Replay records interactions and page changes so product-flow problems can be diagnosed. Password fields are masked by the replay SDK.
| Cookie / technology | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visits and maintains analytics session state so we can understand aggregate use of the Service | Up to 2 years under Google's default configuration, or until deleted |
AMP_<project-id> and related AMP_* browser storage | Amplitude | Distinguishes visits, queues analytics events, configures capture, and links events to session replays | Up to 1 year for the identifier cookie; shorter-lived queued data and configuration may also be stored until sent, consent is withdrawn, or browser data is cleared |
| Amplitude Session Replay IndexedDB storage | Amplitude | Temporarily buffers sampled session-replay events before upload | Until uploaded, consent is withdrawn, or browser data is cleared |
3.4 Advertising
SunsetVue does not display advertising and does not load Google AdSense or advertising cookies. If advertising is introduced later, this policy and the Terms of Service will be updated before ads are displayed.
4. Maps and external pages
Interactive maps load OpenStreetMap tiles and a Leaflet stylesheet from UNPKG. Those services receive the technical request data needed to return those files, and map tile requests reveal the area being viewed. Links to Google Maps, Stripe, and other third-party pages are governed by those providers' own cookie policies once you open them.
5. Browser controls
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and other browser storage. Blocking necessary authentication or payment cookies may prevent sign-in, checkout, or billing management from working. Clearing optional storage resets the preferences described above.
6. Changes
We update this policy when the technologies or purposes described here change. The "Last updated" date reflects the current version.
