Lac de Cheserys Mont Blanc Reflection: sunrise photography forecast

The small Chéserys lakes give you a clean reflection of the Mont Blanc massif without the infrastructure around Lac Blanc. The pools are shallow and wind-sensitive, so the successful frame is often decided by timing rather than by finding the lake.

For photographers: shooting Lac de Cheserys Mont Blanc Reflection

Best months

Late June to early October. July brings flowers and long evenings; late September can add autumn colour and clearer air.

Suggested focal lengths

16–35 mm for the pool and full massif; 50–100 mm for compressed peaks and reflected details.

Composition

Check several pools before unpacking. Get low enough to fill the foreground with water, but avoid trampling the soft edges; a small shift can remove overlapping peaks.

Recommended arrival

Reach the lakes 60–90 minutes before sunset and plan the entire descent with a headlamp.

Access planning

This is an exposed mountain hike. Lifts shorten some routes but may stop well before sunset, so confirm operating times and assume you may need to descend on foot.

Parking: Official parking or bus stops at Tré-le-Champ, Col des Montets or the selected lift station.

Approach: Typically 2–3 hours uphill from Tré-le-Champ; shorter only when combining operating lifts with the balcony trail.
